Rahul assume office of Cong prez, party workers burst crackers outside AICC HQs

New Delhi: As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was coronated as party President, marking a generational change in the party, party workers and supporters burst crackers and indulged in celebrations outside the party headquarters at 24, Akbar Road on Saturday.
Ahead of Mr Gandhi taking over as the party president, supporters and party workers burst crackers and raise slogans in his support outside the party headquarters here.
Holding banners, the party workers indulged in celebrations are heard saying that 'Rahul Gandhi Aandhi Hai, Doosra Mahatma Gandhi Hai' (Rahul is a wind, he is another Mahatma Gandhi').
On this occasion, several party workers distributed sweets to mark the celebration of Mr Gandhi's elevation.Mr Gandhi takes over as party President from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who has been the longest serving party president.He is the sixth person from the Nehru Gandhi family to assume the post.Mr Gandhi was declared elected unopposed by the central election authority on December 11 after he was the only candidate in fray after the end of the deadline for withdrawal of candidature for the post of party president.
