Court awards life sentence to 4 for Raping married woman in Alwar

Jaipur: A special court in Alwar on Tuesday awarded life sentence to four convicts of the five for sexually assaulting  a 19-year-old Dalit girl.
The fifth convict was given five years of imprisonment as he filmed the heinous act.The convicts who were given life sentences were identified as Hansraj Gurjar, Ashok Gujar, Chhotelal Gurjar and Indraj Gurjar while who filmed as Hansraj Gurjar.
 
On April 26, 2019, five men raped the Dalit woman in Thanagazi area of Alwar in front of her husband. The entire act was filmed and later the woman was blackmailed for Rs 10,000 for not posting the video on social media.
 
The incident evoked sharp criticism against the Rajasthan government for allegedly failing to protect women and Dalits. A case was registered against them under several IPC sections including Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Information Technology Act and all the convicts were arrested.
 
Also, Alwar Superintendent of Police was removed and Thanagazi SHO suspended over 'laxity' in dealing with the case.(UNI)
