Mumbai/ New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has strongly criticized the unexplained disappearance of India’s Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, calling it unbecoming of a democratic nation.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP warned that if the government continues to withhold information on Dhankhar’s whereabouts, the INDIA alliance would consider approaching the Supreme Court under the habeas corpus provision to demand an investigation.

Raut raised concerns about the growing trend of silencing unwanted leaders, comparing it to practices seen in countries like China and Russia. He questioned, “Has India started adopting such tactics? Where is Jagdeep Dhankhar? Who is he with? What is his health condition? No one seems to have any information.”

Raut’s remarks came during a press briefing in Delhi, where he pointed out that since Dhankhar’s resignation, he has been conspicuously absent. Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal reportedly raised the issue with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray during his recent visit to Delhi.

In another statement, Raut commented on the recent tensions in Mumbai over the closure of pigeon-feeding areas. He noted that women from the Jain community had been protesting with knives in hand, an alarming sight for a community traditionally known for its non-violence. Raut accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of pushing the peaceful Jain community towards violence.
