SC nixes Shanti Bhushan's plea; says CJI is master of roster

New Delhi: The Supreme Court  on Friday said the Chief Justice of India is the master of roster and first among equals.The bench was hearing a petition filed by senior lawyer and former law minister Shanti Bhushan in connection with the SC judge roster system.
A division bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri, and also comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan, refused to interfere with the petition filed by Shanti Bhushan and disposed off the petition.
 
"This court has considered objectively and we found no dispute that the CJI is the master of roster. The Constitution is silent on the role of CJI," the bench said.The Supreme Court also made it clear that there is no doubt about it that the CJI is the master of roster system. The CJI is first among equals CJI is empowered to leadership in court.
 
Judiciary discharges one of the most desired thing, that is Justice dispensation system, the Apex Court said."Justice should be administered according to law. No system is full proof.There is always scope for improvement," the bench said. (UNI)
