Security beefed up in Delhi ahead of I-Day celebration

New Delhi: Security has been beefed up across the national capital, ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

The police have taken several safety measures at all the districts to avert any untoward incident.

The restrictions will be imposed on movement of Commercial and transport vehicles on the borders.

As many as 18 border entry entry points will be closed for the movement of commercial and transport vehicles from from 2200 hours on August 14 to next day 1100 hours, said Delhi Traffic Police.

The police have been keeping its vigilant surveillance at certain hotspots and vulnerable areas. It has enhanced foot patrolling at main roads, crowded market areas and other places to keep check on security arrangements.

Over 10,000 police personnel have been deployed for foolproof security here, Delhi Police said in a press briefing.

"The security arrangements are being made by all the units of Delhi Police with the coordination of Central agencies and technology is being used as force multiplier this year," Dependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police, L&O, Delhi said earlier this week.

The police urge the public not to use flying objects for security reasons during Independence Day.

Patrolling has been intensified and extra pickets have been deployed on strategic points to keep vigil on anti-social elements, police said.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on Independence Day following which certain restrictions will be imposed at and around the Fort for security reasons, said police.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, metro parking will remain closed due to Independence Day security arrangements. Parking facilities will not be available at the Delhi Metro stations from 6 am on Sunday till August 15. However, the metro train services will continue to run as per normal schedule. (UNI)
