Setback for TMC, Abhishek Banerjee (MP) and his wife Rujira summoned by ED

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the money trails of different financial scams across West Bengal, has summoned All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee (MP) and his wife Rujira requesting them to appear before its investigating officials early next month.

Media reports said they have been asked to appear on September 6 and September 1
respectively along with bank details. The two have been under the acaner of the central probe
agencies - the CBI and ED - in relation to the coal smuggling scam.The report said the two have been summoned on different dates in relation to the alleged
coal scam probe.

While Abhishek Banerjee, who represents the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat in South 24 Parganas and nephew of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been asked to appear on

September 6, his wife Rujira Banerjee is scheduled to appear on September 1 under the section Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for September 1.

The case, filed under criminal sections of the (PMLA), was filed by the ED after studying a November, 2020 FIR of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that alleged a multi-crore coal pilferage scam related to the Eastern Coalfields Ltd mines in the state's Kunustoria and Kajora
areas in and around Asansol.

TMC leader and state minister Partha Chatterjee reacting to the summons slammed the BJP
led central government and said the BJP was pursuing the revengeful politicsHe said the the BJP has been setting the central probe agencies to harass the ruling TMC inBengal.(UNI)
