New Delhi: Even as Islamic nations have been issuing statements condemning the utterances of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammad, a Dutch lawmaker has come to her defence and said she has spoken the “truth” about the Prophet and India should not apologise.

Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom and a member of the House of Representatives in the Netherlands, in tweets backed Nupur Sharma, who was suspended on Sunday after the uproar among Islamic nations over her utterances in a TV debate.

“Appeasement never works. It’ll only make things worse. So my dear friends from India, don’t be intimidated by islamic countries. Stand up for freedom and be proud and steadfast in defending your politician #NupurSharma @NupurSharmaBJP who spoke the truth about Muhammad,” he wrote.

“It is ridiculous that Arab and Islamic countries are angered by Indian politician #NupurSharma @NupurSharmaBJP for speaking the truth about #ProphetMuhammad who indeed married Aisha when she was six years old and consumed the marriage when she was nine. Why does India apologize,” he added.

Wilders has been getting a lot of death threats from Islamists over his statements.

In one tweet, in reply to death threats, he said: “Go to hell @ziaulmustafa576, @TLPakistan22, #hafizsaadhussainrizvi and all other muslims from Pakistan and Turkey who in the name of the so called prophet Muhammad threaten to kill me every day again. Threats will achieve nothing. I will never stop speaking the truth.”

A host of Islamic nations, including Kuwait, Qatar and Iran summoned their respective Indian ambassadors over the comments by Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, who has been expelled from the party. Other Islamic countries including Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Maldives, Oman, Malaysia, Libya, and Afghanistan have denounced the comments. (UNI)
