Sonia Gandhi elected as leader of CPP

New Delhi:Mrs Sonia Gandhi was  on Saturday  elected the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP).
Mrs Gandhi was elected CPP leader at  a meeting of the Congress  members of  Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, held in the Central hall of Parliament. 
 
The name of  Mrs Gandhi was proposed by former prime minister Manmohan Singh.Speaking at the meeting, Ms Sonia Gandhi thanked the 12.13 crore voters for reposing faith in the Congress  party.
 
Addressing the Congress MPs, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, "Every Congress member must remember that each one of you is fighting for the Constitution, for every person in India, irrespective of the colour of their skin and belief." 
 
Sources said that the meeting of the CPP party deliberated on  party's  strategy for the upcoming Parliamentary session, which is scheduled to be held from June 17 to July 26.
 
This is the  first meeting of the CPP after the results of the Lok Sabha elections,  which saw the BJP retain power with a bigger  tally if 303 seats  in the Lok Sabha while the Congress put up a poor show, winning just 52 seats.(UNI)
