SP-BSP grand alliance called off temporarily after poll debacle

New Delhi: BSP supremo Mayawati has temporarily called off ties with SP in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati said that the party is gearing up to go solo in the upcoming bypolls for 11 state assembly seat. However she added that familiar terms with the yadav will continue and a second thought on alliance if SP performs better.
According to sources, Ms Mayawati told party workers at the review meeting, on Monday, in the national capital, that SP and RLD could not transfer their votes to the BSP in the Lok Sabha elections.
 
She also accused Shivpal Yadav for huring the prospects of the grand alliance in at least three constituencies, as he managed to transfer Yadav votes, a core vote bank of SP, to the BJP, sources said. 
 
According to BSP leaders, the party had deliberation on the issues, including EVMs.Mayavati-led BSP, Akhilesh Yadav's SP and Ajith Singh-led RLD had contested as Mahagathbandhan, with a hope to stop BJP juggernaut in the  state.BSP, however, won 10 seats out of 37 it contested, SP five and RLD could not win a single seat in UP.  
 
Ms Mayawati has on Sunday sacked  party in-charges in six states and party presidents in two states. The by-elections were necessitated after BJP, SP, BSP and Apna Dal fielded MLAs in the Lok Sabha polls and 11 have been elected. (UNI)
