Former TV anchor Suhaib Illiyasi gets life term for murdering wife

New Delhi: A Delhi sessions court on Wednesday awarded life term to television producer and anchor Suhaib Illiyasi for the murder of his wife Anju in January 2000. Anju was found dead in her east Delhi residence with multiple stab injuries. Suhaib told the police that she had committed suicide after an argument.He was arrested on March 28, 2000, after charges of dowry were added to the case based on the testimony of his sister-in-law Rashmi Singh and mother-in-law Rukma alleging that Anju was tortured and harassed for dowry.

In 2011, Rukma's application in the trial court seeking inclusion of murder charges against Suhaib was dismissed. She then moved the high court, which in August 2014 ordered framing of murder charges against Suhaib.He then approached the Supreme Court challenging the ruling but his plea was dismissed.Ilyasi had shot to fame as the host of a crime show called India's Most Wanted.(UNI)
