Midnapore: At least 22 people were injured, three of them seriously, when a tent collapsed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Kisan Kalyan rally in West Bengal's Midnapore district today.
Mr Modi was addressing the rally amidst heavy downpour. The tent collapse led to a minor stampede injuring the people.

The prime minister rushed to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital where the injured were admitted and talked to them.Torrential rains have been continuing for the past three days making the steel structure at the rally site weak.

People had gathered in huge numbers to listen to Mr Modi. In their enthusiasm they started climbing the structure to get a better view.

On seeing this the prime minister rebuked them and asked them repeatedly to come down.
Suddenly a few joints cracked and the structure collapsed wounding the people, many of them sitting on chairs. This led to a stampede and some more people sustained injuries, three of them seriously.

Hospital's Chief Medical Officer Girish Chandra Bera, however, told UNI there was no cause of concern. The district  magistrate also said the situation was under control.
