Srinagar: A massive operation has been resumed in the woods near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara, where alert troops foiled an infiltration bid and killed three militants. However, so far no fresh contact has been established with the militants, official sources said. They said with the first light this morning, troops resumed search operation in the woods in Naugam sector, where troops killed three militants yesterday immediately after they sneaked into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the wee hours under the cover of darkness.
The entire dense forest area in the sector was sealed from all sides, they said, adding that the operation was however, stopped due to darkness. However, this morning, security forces have resumed the operation to nab the militants, if any, hiding in the forest. Troops have thoroughly searching the forest area, sources said. Meanwhile, security forces, already on high alert, have intensified night and foot patrolling all along the LoC to foil any infiltration attempt from across the PoK, where a large number of trained militants are waiting to sneak into this side this summer before the higher reaches are again closed due to snowfall.
