Tirumala: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has clarified that the rumour about the presence of a tobacco pouch in the sacred Laddu Prasadam is untrue.

It is inappropriate for some devotees to spread such claims on social media about the presence of a tobacco pouch in Srivari Laddu Prasada, TTD said in a release here on Tuesday.

Lakhs of Laddus are being prepared every day in Tirumala by Sri Vaishnava Brahmins with utmost devotion, dedication, and strict adherence to the rules.

These Laddus are also prepared under CCTV surveillance.

It is unfortunate to spread such misinformation about a well-organized system of Laddu preparation.

Devotees are requested to take note of this, TTD said.

What's the new controversy?

A devotee had claimed that she found traces of tobacco in the Tirupati laddoo. On September 19, Donthu Padmavati, a resident of Khammam district, visited Tirupati temple and got the prasadam. While sharing the prasadam with her family, she made the shocking discovery, as per reports.

"As I was about to distribute the laddoo, I was horrified to find pieces of tobacco wrapped in a small paper. The prasadam is supposed to be sacred, and to find such contamination is heartbreaking," she said.
