Kolhapur/Ratnagiri: After dramatic developments during the day following his arrest over objectionable statement against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Union Minister Narayan Rane was released on bail by a court at Mahad in Ratnagiri district on Tuesday night.
After his arrest at Sangmeshwar in the afternoon, police brought him to Mahad in Raigad district and produced him before the Magistrate court tonight.
During the hearing of his bail application, the public prosecutor demanded for seven days police custody, while the defence lawyers argued that Rane's arrest was totally illegal and he should be released on bail.
After hearing both sides, First Class Magistrate Babasaheb Sheikh-Patil accepted the defence's argument and granted bail to Rane.
Following the registration of complaints in Nashik and Pune, the police of both districts are likely to summon Rane to register his statement. (UNI)
