UP resident among 2 held with Demonetised Rs 50 Lakh in Kashmir

Srinagar: Two persons, including a resident of Uttar Pradesh (UP), were arrested with Rs 50 Lakh demonetized currency notes in Kashmir valley, a police spokesman said here on Sunday.He said a police party of Police Post Baghiyas, apprehended two persons during a surprise Naka checking near Batboni Baghiyas and recovered demonetised currency of Rs 50 lakh from their possession.The accused were later identified as Nazir Ahmad Rather, resident of Syedpora Rafiabad and Akeel Ahmad Khan, resident of Kanpur (UP), at present residing in Baramulla.
Accordingly, cognisance was taken under the specified Bank notes (Cessation and Liabilities) Act, 2017 and further investigation taken up. The accused will be presented before the competent Court for judicial determination, he added. (UNI)
