Shahjahanpur (UP): A 30-year-old youth was arrested for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the Sadar Bazar area of Shahjahanpur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said that on Wednesday evening, the accused, Sanjeev, enticed the minor girl, who was playing in front of his house, and took her to his residence.
"At his residence, Sanjeev sexually assaulted the girl. By the time the victim's family members reached the spot, the accused had fled," he said.
He said that a case falls under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
"The accused was arrested late on Wednesday night. The victim has been sent for medical examination," he said.
