Sitapur (UP): A tiger attacked and carried off an 18-year-old girl in Rathourpur village, under Machhrehata police station limits in Sitapur district on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Kamini, had gone out for her morning routine around 6 am with her mother, Prema, when the attack occurred.
According to Prema, the tiger suddenly emerged from nearby fields, causing panic. Before they could flee, the tiger pounced on Kamini, grabbing her by the neck. Despite Prema’s desperate attempts to save her daughter, the tiger dragged Kamini away and disappeared into the surrounding forested area.
Hearing the screams, villagers rushed to the spot and began searching the fields and nearby jungle. While Kamini could not be found, her slippers were recovered from the scene, confirming the location of the attack.
The Forest Department was immediately notified and a team reached the site. Officials are currently tracking pugmarks and combing the area in hopes of locating Kamini or the tiger involved.
Kamini’s mother, overwhelmed with grief, shared that her daughter was due to be married this November and preparations for the wedding were underway. “We never imagined something like this could happen,” she said.
Authorities have urged villagers to remain vigilant and avoid isolated areas, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
