Talking to news persons after a demonstration of the Electronic voting Machines and VVPAT at the election office, Reddiyarpalayam here, Mr Candavelou said that during the last elections,VVPAT was introduced in one constituency in Karaikal region and three constituencies in Puducherry on an experimental basis.
As many as 2,400 voting machines and 1200 VVPATs were brought to Puducherry to be utilized in the ensuing Lok Sabha and VVPAT would be used in all the constituencies next time.
He said awareness is being created among the public as well as political parties on VVPAT since,all politicians are raising baseless questions on VVPAT and confusing the public.
The CEO also said that EVMs or VVPAT could not be operated using mobile phone or wireless sets.
The Election Commission of India has been intimated that the Thattanchavady constituency is vacant and the ECI is taking steps to hold by-election as per the rules that a election should be held within six months.The process of enrollment of new voters is underway and the new voters list would be published on January 4, next year, he added.(UNI)
