New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday gave her approval to the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, which had been passed by Parliament, clearing the decks for it to become the law of the land.
The Department of the Ministry of Law and Justice notified the new Act in the Gazette of India after the President gave the nod.
The Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha after a 17-hour marathon discussion and division of votes in the early hours of Friday. The bill got 128 votes in favour, while 95 votes went against it.
A day before that, the bill was passed in the Lok Sabha after a 13-hour discussion. It got the backing of 288 members, while 232 members voted against it.
