Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said she was ready to resign but claimed some forces were "provoking" the protesting junior doctors to defame her " Ma Mati Manus' (mother, land and people) government.

Banerjee also said they were after the chair (seat of power) by presenting "distorted information" on social media.

The CM's comment came after her government's third attempt to hold talks with the medics failed even as the agitating doctors came in front of Nabanna but did not attend the meeting, after the administration refused to accede to their demand for livesteamng the proceed9ings.

"In the interest of the people, I am ready to resign. I do not want the post of the Chief Minister. I want justice for Tilottama. And I want the common people to get medical treatment," Banerjee said at a media conference after the proposed talks failed to take off.

Banerjee said the government sympathised with the junior doctors and she even marched on the streets to give justice to "Tilottoma" (the name by which she called the murdered lady medic). However, she said her government cannot allow live streaming of the meeting since the matter was sub-judice in the Supreme Court.

She also appealed to the medics to return to work and said her government did not want to take any action against them despite the Supreme Court's Monday order that the state administration could take steps if the junior doctor did not report for duty by Tuesday, September 10.
