Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday sharply criticized Kundapura government college in Karnataka for denying entry of girls students wearing hijab.

“Beti bacao beti parhao is yet another hollow slogan”, Mehbooba said in a tweet on the Udupi Hijab row in Karnataka, where students wearing hijab are being denied entry at Bhandarka's college Kundapura.

She said “legitimizing the marginalization of muslims is one more step towards converting Gandhi's India into Godhse's India.

"Beti bachao beti parhao is yet another hollow slogan. Muslims girls are being denied the right to education simply because of their attire. Legitimising the marginalisation of muslims is one more step towards converting Gandhi's India into Godhse's India,” Mehbooba said in her tweet.

Meanwhile, Mehbooba also demanded stringent action against those who attacked a girl from Srinagar with acid a few days back.

Talking to reporters she said the acid attack on a Srinagar girl is an inhumane act and those behind this heinous crime should be given stringent punishment so that such incidents are put to an end. (UNI)
