New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday took a dig at the ruling BJP after certain texts mentioning about Mahatma Gandhi's assassination were reportedly removed from the Class 12 Political Science and History textbooks of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and said truth has a way of manifesting itself.

"This rewriting of history has been an ongoing endeavour with the RSS-BJP. This is not the first time that this has happened. Even during the first and second NDA government (at Centre)in 1998 and 1999, in such way tried to revise the NCERT syllabus. You can distort history, but you can not erase it," Congress MP Manish Tewari said attacking the BJP government, in an apparent reference to NCERT textbooks row.

He added, "The truth has a way of manifesting itself."

The former Union Minister also took a swipe at the BJP-led government over the Chinese issue, and demanded the Centre to convene a meeting with the senior leaders of the Opposition parties and brief it comprehensively on the present situation.

"We would like to demand the government to take the Opposition into confidence (on the Chinese issue). A meeting must be convened with the senior leaders of the Opposition parties and they should be briefed (about China)," he said.

He also accused the ruling dispensation of running away from a discussion on China in Parliament. (UNI)
