On getting information of the incident, a police team and the villagers reached the spot.
According to the information, Liaquat Ali and his family from Maan Majra village of Malerkotla district in Punjab had brought about 120 buffaloes and their cattle near Ghaggar river in Sarola Guhla village for grazing.
Some of these animals went down to the Ghaggar river to drink water and take a bath, but they were trapped in water hyacinth, as a result, at least five cows and 35 buffaloes died due to drowning in water.
The owners of the dead buffaloes have not lodged any complaint with the police so far, sources said. (UNI)
