After Kallakurichi suicide, yet another girl student ends life in school hostel

Chennai: Close on the heels of a girl student committing suicide in Kallakurichi triggering large scale violence, yet another girl student ended her life by hanging at a government-aided school at Kilacherry near Mappedu in neighbouring Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.
The 12th student, P.Sarala, a native of Thekkalur near Tiruttani, was found hanging in her hostel room of Sacred Hearts Girls Higher Secondary School this morning.
The girl was seen talking to her friends today morning during breakfast, before she went to her hostel room and committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling.
She had spoken to her parents over phone on Sunday evening, police said.
The reason for the 17-year-old girl student taking the extreme step was being probed, District Superintendent of Police P.C.Kalyan told reporters.
He said as per the guidelines of the Madras High Court the investigation into the suicide was handed over to the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), he said.
Acting on information from her school mates, police rushed to the spot and shifted her body to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for post mortem.
As the news spread, parents and relatives of the girl along with locals staged a road roko agitation at Thekkalur.
A large number of police personnel were deployed at the government hospital, in the school and in Tekkalur village to prevent any untoward incident, especially after the violence that erupted in Kallkurichi on Sunday last after a girl student jumped to death from her third floor hostel at a private residential school.
The school management have declared a holiday for the school for the day.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) M.Sathya Priya, who visited the spot, confirmed that the girl was found hanging and that a case of suspicious death was registered.
As no suicide not was recovered, an enquiry is on with her classmates, friends and hostel wardens to ascertain the reason for the suicide. (UNI)
