Ranchi: Ranchi's daughter Dipika Kumari has set a new record by clinching three gold medals in a single day during the ongoing Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris.
The archer has thus raised the medal hopes for the nation ahead of the Tokyo Olympics by hitting three gold medals on a single day. On Sunday, Deepika won the gold medal along with Komalika Bari and Ankita Bhakta first in the team recurve match of the ongoing World Cup Stage-3 Archery in Paris.
After some time, in the mixed doubles recurve competition, performing flawless archery with her husband Atanu Das, she won another gold medal.
On Sunday evening, the happiness tripled when Dipika also won the gold in the singles competition. She is the first archer to win three gold medals on a single day in the World Cup. Significantly, Dipika is the only woman archer from India to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics which will be her third Olympic games.
The Indian trio showed their passion for the medal, recovering from the loss of a lower-ranked team in the Olympic qualifying event held in Paris a fortnight ago. In the match against Mexico, Dipika, Komalika and Ankita performed so strongly that the rival team could not stand anywhere. In the final match, the Indian team won the gold medal by defeating Mexico in a set of five matches. Most of Dipika's arrows were on target.
Komalika and Ankita are from Tata Archery Academy while Dipika recently joined ONGC after leaving Tata Archery Academy.
In the final bout of the mixed doubles recurve event, Dipika Kumari along with her husband Atanu Das showed why they are India's biggest medal hope at the Olympics. In the final match with Netherlands, Deepika and Atanu were given a tough fight by the rival team as at one point the matter was tied in a 2-2 set. But after this the Indian pair performed brilliantly and won the match 5-3.
After winning two gold medals, Dipika, who reached the singles event on Sunday evening with high spirits, continued her stellar performance. Dipika clinched her third gold medal on the same day after thrashing her Russian rival 6-0 in the final.
