Army pays homage to soldier killed in north Kashmir encounter

Srinagar: Army today paid tributes to a soldier killed in an encounter with militants in the north Kashmir district of Bandipora. Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said in a befitting tribute to Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the valour and sacrifice of Naik Chandra Singh in a solemn ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment.

“Naik Singh had been critically injured in an encounter in Naidkhai, Bandipora yesterday that resulted in the elimination of two heavily armed militants yesterday,” Col Kalia said, adding he was evacuated to the Military Hospital were he succumbed. “The martyr is survived by his wife and two young daughters,” he said.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the Army, the Corps Commander assured that all necessary assistance will be provided to them in the future. The mortal remains of Naik Chandra Singh will be flown for last rites to his native place where he will be laid to rest with full military honours,” the spokesperson added. (UNI)
