Army rescues 71 tourists in Ladakh after avalanche hits area

Srinagar: In a swift action, the Army rescued 71 tourists, including women and children, who got stranded after an avalanche struck Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence ministry spokesman said here today. A message was received from civil authorities that a group of tourists were stranded in between Chang La and Tangtse in Ladakh region after the avalanche hit the area yesterday.
 

He said a rescue operation was launched immediately and stranded tourists, including 21 women and children were taken to safer place. The tourists were provided medical assistance, food, clothing besides accommodation, he added and said all the tourists are safe. (UNI)
