'Bal Sansad' to make kids aware of 'Blue Whale' danger

Bhopal: Taking cognisance of a student attempting to commit suicide as part of the infamous 'Blue Whale' challenge in Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MPSCPCR) has come forward to spread awareness among children.

'A ‘Bal Sansad’ is being organised in the state capital on August 22 wherein children would make aware other children to abstain from the game as well as inform them about the harmful effects of social media,” MPSCPCR Chairman Raghvendra Sharma told UNI over telephone. “Children would play the role of members of opposition and ruling parties and discuss problems concerning children, legislation related to them, examination-related stress and dangers of social media including games such as the Blue Whale,” he said. More than 500 children – including from private and Government schools – are gearing up for the event.

The Commission is planning to organise similar events in all the divisions of the state. Earlier, the School Education Department has directed all schools to spread awareness about the game among children. The state regime has urged the Centre to mull banning the game.

On Friday, a class VII student in Indore tried to commit suicide by jumping off from the third floor of his school building by taking up the infamous Blue Whale challenge but was prevented by his classmates and teachers in the nick of time. Two children – one in Mumbai and another in West Bengal’s Midnapur – have already become victims of the game. (UNI)
