Chandan Mishra murder: 5 suspects arrested in Bengal

Five suspected assailants involved in the brazen killing of gangster Chandan Mishra inside a Patna hospital were arrested early Saturday from a posh residential complex in New Town, Kolkata, official sources said.

Teams from Patna Police and Bihar’s Special Task Force (STF), in coordination with the West Bengal STF, launched intensive search operations in Purulia and the New Town area yesterday. The suspects were apprehended from Shukhobrishti Abasan, a large residential complex in New Town's IT hub, Salt Lake, early this morning.

The arrested suspects are under intensive interrogation at a Bengal STF facility to determine their identity and purpose of visiting the residential complex. The residential complex -Shukhobrishti Abasan - is notoriously known for an encounter as Punjab-based gangsters were eliminated in a shootout with the West Bengal STF on June 9, 2021.Residents of the complex expressed renewed fears and concern over security following the arrests.

According to a report from Patna citing CCTV footage, a five-member gang was seen entering the Intensive Care Cubicle (ICC) of Paras Hospital, where they gunned down Chandan Mishra, a convicted murderer who was out on bail. After the killing, the assailants were reportedly seen celebrating while riding bikes.

The assailants who executed the murder were having prior information about Mishra's room 209 in Paras hospital and the attack was led by Tauseef Badshah, a known criminal.Chandan Mishra, a convicted murderer and gangster, was shot dead inside Paras Hospital in Patna on Thursday.

The five suspects' names were not disclosed so far for investigation purposes, official sources said.The Bihar Police also visited Purulia district jail where gangster Sheru Singh was imprisoned for various offences including murders.Police interrogated him and started a search operation in New Town, sources said. Sources said the five arrested suspects would be produced in a city court and then to be transferred to Patna for further investigation.(UNI)
