New Delhi: Congress members again raised the incident of attack by cow vigilantes in Alwar, Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha today, raising a ruckus and even entering the Well of the House. However, an angry Deputy chairperson P J Kurien refused to adjourn the House despite the slogans raised by the Congress members. Raising the matter at the start of Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Alwar incident had been raised in the House yesterday too, but the Home Minister was yet to make a statement.

He said for a slap, offenders got 15 days remand but for killing by cow vigilantes it was a one-day remand. The LoP said the Parliamentary Affairs minister had misled the House and the Home Minister should speak on the Alwar incident in the Upper House. However, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi's assurance that it was a serious matter and six arrests had been made and an FIR lodged in the case did not satisfy the agitated Congress members who then entered the Well of the House shouting slogans.

As the Congress members continued to shout slogans despite his mentioning that the Home Minister would make a statement on Monday on the incident, Prof Kurien then said the Congress members were behaving irresponsibly and he would not be intimidated to adjourn the House. (UNI)
