Srinagar: A BSF jawan was killed and another was injured when militants attacked Border Security Force (BSF) and Army camps in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla. However, this time security forces foiled the attempt by militants to storm into the camps.

Official sources said that a group of militants hurled grenades at main gates of BSF and 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) camps at Janbazpora on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), road tonight. Meanwhile, another group of militants tried to storm the camps from the rear sides. “Security guards immediately retaliated and foiled the militant attempt to storm into the camps,” sources said, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.

A BSF jawan was killed and another was injured in the initial exchange of fire. Sources said more troops from nearby areas, besides paramilitary and state police personnel, have been rushed to the area. However, the BSF spokesperson in Srinagar said that details were being collected while the Defence Ministry spokesperson was not available. A resident in the nearby locality told UNI that after blasts, heavy firing was going on.

The attack took place less than a fortnight after Uri attack on September 18, when four fidayeen stormed into Brigade headquarters of Army in Baramulla in which 19 soldiers were killed and as many injured. All the militants were also killed in the encounter, which was followed by surgical strikes by Indian troops across the Line of Control (LoC), destroying militant launch pads. (UNI)
