Agartala: A policeman has been accused of administering electric shock to a teenager and inserting needles on his fingers, besides mercilessly beating him in Sonamura under Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

The victim lodged a complaint at the local police station against the accused police constable, but his family alleged no action has been taken yet.

The victim Ali Ullah (19) alleged that constable Alauddin Majumder had summoned him to his residence on September 20. When he reached there, Majumdar called him a thief and attacked.

The accused constable alleged that his wife’s mobile was stolen early this year and recently he came to know it was "taken" by Ali Ullah, who belongs to a very poor family. Accordingly, he called the boy and asked him to return the mobile, but the teenager denied the allegation. Angry, Alauddin then allegedly started beating him.

According to the victim, when he fell down, he was given an electric shock. Needles were inserted into his fingers for a long time which left him unconscious. Then, the neighbours rescued the teenager and sent him back home. Later, the victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the police seeking justice.

On Saturday, the victim’s mother went to the Sonamura police station for an update on their complaint, but policemen there allegedly threatened them of "dire consequences if they pursued the matter". The victim claimed thereafter he tried to contact the Sub Divisional Police Officer and Superintendent of Police (Sepahijala) but failed.

However, the state police headquarters said an investigation has already been launched based on the media report and the accused would be punished as per law if the allegation was found to be true. (UNI)
