Gang hurls petrol bomb, hacks DMK leader to death with sharp weapons near Vandalur in Chennai

Chennai: In a shocking incident, a functionary of the ruling DMK was hacked to death by an unidentified gang, allegedly due to business rivalry, after attacking him with petrol bombs at suburban Vandalur late on Thursday night.
 
The DMK functionary, V.S.Aramudhan,was travelling in his car, when the hurled petrol bombs at his car before hacking him to death with lethal weapons.
 
Aramudhan is the deputy chairman of the Kattankulathur Panchayat Union and union secretary of the DMK’s Kattankulathur Union (North) unit and was involved in real estate business.
 
Police suspect business rivalry as the motive behind the killing.
 
Police sources said he was on his way to inspect an under-construction bus shelter on the Vandalur-Walajabad Road that was scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on his birthday on Friday when the incident occurred.
 
When he neared a bridge in Vandalur, a five-member gang waylaid him and hurled petrol bombs at his car. When he alighted from the car and tried to escape, they chased him and attacked him with sharp weapons inflicting serious cut injuries on him before fleeing the spot.
 
On being alerted by the passersby, police rushed him to the Government Chromepet Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
 
As a large number of DMK cadres assembled in the spot, police have beefed up security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
 
Tambaram City Police have formed special teams to trace the killers.
