Gudiya gangrape murder case accused found dead in police custody

Shimla: One of the accused in the Gudiya gangrape and murder case was found dead in police lockup Kotkhai, making two-week long blind case more complicated. The accused Raju, a Nepali national, was held by the police for gangraping and murdering a minor school girl Gudiya. He was in police remand for last nine days. The police came out with the statement that the accused was killed last night by his co-accused Suraj in the police lock-up last night. However, it is yet to be ascertained whether he died during police remand or killed by co-accused.
A joint action committee led by former SSP of IB Balak Ram, accused the state police of not arresting the the real culprit and that the police arrested four outsiders who were not involved in the crime. They alleged that police has come out with a framed theory. With the death of Raju in the police lock-up government ordered the judicial probe in the matter. The matter is also least in state high court today. The local people started gathering outside police station Theog and Kotkahi protesting against role of state police to handle the case and destroying vital evidences and links in the case.
The state government had announced the that it has urged the Union government to lodge a CBI probe in the case. However, the CBI is yet to decide the whether it would handle the probe or not. Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur also raised the issue in the Lok Sabha during the zero hour today. Putting the state government in the dock, he said that national media did not give the coverage to the event deafening the voice of people raised on the issue. He said that police tried to cover up the crime by destroying the evidence, Mr Thakur said that role of SP Shimla D W Negi and IG south range ZHS Zaidi is suspicious as they had joined the SIT and did not deliver justice to the victim.
