Water-logging, traffic jams, heavy rain forces Delhi to taste Mumbai monsoon life

New Delhi: Fresh spell of heavy rains lashed Delhi and its suburbs this morning, leaving commuters stranded on roads and localities choked with water logging. The heavy showers, which occurred after a heavily overcast sky since last night, brought down the minimum temperature to 26 Deg C, one degree below normal. The showers, which hit several parts of the city, also led to water-logging and traffic jams in several areas, throwing life in the city out of gear.

The worst hit areas were Ring Road at Dhaula Kuan, the stretch from Bhairon Road to Mathura road , Roundabout Teen Murti, IGNOU Road, IP Flyover towards Sarai, the Barapullah flyover, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, W Point, Loha Mandi to Mayapuri, Gol Dak Khana, Kali Bari Marg, Chirag Delhi to Nehru Place flyover.

A traffic police official said water logging under Modi Mill Flyover, Sadik Nagar, BRT to Moolchand, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Nehru Place to Zamrudpur is making hard for office goers reach their destination. The other affected areas are Alipur Village, Okhla Underpass, Jasola Red Light,Saket M.B. Road, Saket Metro Station, Lado Sarai T-Point. PTS Red Light., Raja Garden towards Mayapuri, Gymkhana towards Teen Murti Marg.

The heavy rainfalls also forced US Secretary of State John Kerry to postpone his scheduled visits to Seesganj Gurdwara, Jama Masjid and Gauri Shankar Temple. The highly overcast sky led to low visibility with visibility levels falling to 800 mm at 0830 hours. The rainfall recorded till 0830 hrs was 3.9 mm, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 degrees Celcius and 25 degrees Celcius. The showers are likely to continue throughout the day with weather office forecasting thunderstorms with rains in many areas of the city and the national capital region in the next 24 hours. Heavy rains on Monday had paralyzed the city, causing traffic snarls and water logging in many areas. (UNI)
