Huge consignments of liquor seized in ‘dry’ Bihar

Patna: In continuing drive against trans-border smuggling of liquor into ‘dry’ Bihar, police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans seized huge consignments of liquor being smuggled from Haryana and Nepal in Saran and West Champaran districts during the last 12 hours. While police seized 230 cartons of foreign liquor being smuggled from Haryana in Saran district late last night, SSB jawans seized 380 bottles of Nepalese liquor in West Champaran district today.
 

A Chhapra report said that police seized 230 cartons of foreign liquor near Kishanpura village under Mufassil police station area in Saran district. Police seized the consignment from the truck which turned turtle due to high speed on National Highway 19 near the village. The truck driver and the cleaner made good their escape from the spot abandoning their vehicle. The liquor bottles valued at nearly Rs 5 lakh bore labels of ‘Made in Haryana’.

A massive manhunt is on to nab peddlers, police added. A Bettiah report said that SSB jawans seized 380 bottles of Nepalese liquor near Indo-Nepal border under Mainatarh police station area in West Champaran district. Sources at SSB said that peddlers sneaked into Nepal abandoning the consignment at the spot near Bheriharwa border outpost when SSB jawans asked them to stop. SSB jawans handed over the consignment valued at Rs 30,000 to the district police later. (UNI)
