Internationally acknowledged Bihar’s makhana and its delicacies now available in post offices

Patna: To make India a “Self Reliant” country and to promote “Vocal for Local” mission, the Bihar circle of India Post entered into an agreement with Mithila Naturals Private Limited to provide internationally acknowledged Makhana of Bihar and it’s delicacies through post offices.
Postmaster General Bihar circle Anil Kumar told news persons here on Thursday that Makhana and its various delicacies would now be available for sale and purchase at post offices. He said that initially the products of Makhana of Mithila region would be available at post shop at the General Post Office (GPO) of the state capital and would sooner be available at all post offices in the state at cheaper rate. He said that the India post has also made arrangements for providing these products at the door steps which would be delivered by the Postman.
Outlining the importance of Makhana of Mithila region which was famous on international platform, he said that Makhana was being produced in about 15,000 hectare in the country of which 80 to 90% was being produced in Bihar and 70% of which was contributed from Mithilanchal.
He said that Makhana which is considered as of food of the Almighty was used on several auspicious occasions. Speaking about its nutritional value he said that it is produced without use of any kind of fertilizers and is famous as organic herb.
Mr Kumar said that keeping in mind it’s huge demand all over the world and in Bihar, the department decided to enter into an agreement with Mithila Naturals Private Limited approved by Indian Food Security and Standards Authority to make it easily available through India Post.
Mr Kumar said that apart from providing special delicacies of Makhana pickles and other such food items would also be available at the post offices in order to translate the “Vocal for Local” dream of the Prime Minister into reality. (UNI)
