IPL 2017: RCB appoints Shane Watson as stand-in captain

New Delhi: In absence of injured Virat Kohli, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been named as the stand-in skipper of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the upcoming tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting tomorrow.Before joining RCB, which spent out Rs 9.

5 crore to purchase the Aussie in IPL 2016, Watson was associated with Rajasthan Royals for the first eight seasons of the cash-rich league.In the last year's IPL, the 35-year-old scored 179 runs at an average of 13.76 and bagged 20 wickets.

Kohli sustained a shoulder injury during the third Test against Australia in Ranchi and in his absence, South African superstar AB de Villiers was expected to lead the side.

However, De Villers too, is down with an injury.RCB will kickstart the tenth season on April 5, when they clash against the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. (UNI)
