Issue of obscene TV and print commercials raised in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi:Citing obscene and vulgar advertisements in electronic as well as print media as a reason for rising crime against women, Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav on Wednesday urged the government to devise a mechanism to curb such practices. 

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Mr Yadav said, "When we watch news also such kind of advertisements come on. Situation is such that we can't watch news with families." 

In his reply Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "We are mulling on it. More effective steps are needed to be taken."

Majeed Memon of NCP raised the issue of flooding in Mumbai and said, "The government should find a solution. 27 people died in this flooding."

He also urged Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to give extra attention to Mumbai. 

Jaya Bacchhan of SP raked up rising incidents of crime against women. AGP's Birendra Prasad Baishya requested the government to install Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika statue in Parliament. 

Congress' Pratap Singh Bajwa raised the issue of drugs cartels active in Punjab. Shwait Malik of BJP raised stubble burning in Punjab which is leading to multiple diseases in the state. He also urged for a delegation of Parliament and senior officials to visit the state and take stock of situation. 

Ram Kumar Kashyap of INLD requested for a probe into trees burning along national highway across the country. He also said there is no arrangement of fire dousing along the highways, the government should pay attention towards it. 

Congress' PL Punia demanded for arrest of guilty in Bulandshahr incidents where two dalit women were crushed to death. He also asked for state government to provide financial assistance to the grieved families. 

Rakesh Sinha of BJP demanded turning Indian National Army HQ in Moirang of Manipur into a heritage site. "The then HQ of INA is in the hands of private company , the government should take over it and make it as a heritage site." 

Ripun Bora of Congress urged the government not to privatise the oilfields. He said, "The two PSUs ONGC and OIL are profit making PSUs and they look after all the oilfields in the country. If privatisation happens, entire profit will go to private players. The petroleum ministry should stop this and keep it with the PSUs only. 

Congress' Madhusudan Mistry raised issue of custodial deaths and asked for reforms in police.Javed Ali Khan of SP asked for modernisation of butcheries present in Uttar Pradesh. (UNI)
