Jaitley assumes additional charge of defence ministry

New Delhi: Finance minister Arun Jaitley today assumed additional charge of the Ministry of Defence, after Mr Manohar Parrikar resigned as Defence minister who is heading to Goa to take charge as chief Minister Prime minister Narendra Modi again reposed his faith on Mr Jaitley, whom he had entrusted the dual charge of the Ministry of Defence, in addition to his existing portfolio of Finance.

This is for the second time that the additional charge of the defence ministry has come to Mr Jaitley, who handled this ministry for some months after the Modigovernment had taken over, before Mr Parrikar took charge as the he full fledged Defence Minister. Mr Parrikar was at the helm of the ministry for two years and three months. (UNI)
