New Delhi: The one day special session of the Delhi Assembly today began with brainstorming discussion on the alleged Electronic Voting Machines 'manipulation' issue and its threat to democracy. Speaking during special discussion on EVM, AAP MLA Alka Lamba said, "What was the necessity of the State Election Commission that they had conducted the MCD polls with Generation One machines, which can be easily tampered and why 5000 machines were procured from Rajasthan despite it had 15,000 machines."

Ms Lamba also cited various reports on alleged EVM tampering that came to the fore from different parts of the country where Assembly polls and bypolls were held and wondered why the Election Commission was not allowing political parties to check its 'vulnerability' rather than giving statements that it cannot be tampered with.

The Chandni Chowk MLA also informed that how their party candidate from Chattarpur lost by two votes in MCD polls due to EVM manipulation. Adding, the total numbers of votes increased by 429 due to manipulation as compared to the actual votes. She also cited various judgements given by the courts across the country on this issue. "Bahut bada khel is desh may EVM ke madhyam se ho raha hey. Iska benakab hona jaroori hey (through EVM a big game is being played across the country. It has to be unmasked," Ms Lamba said. Another AAP MLA informed the house, "After LK Advani lost the election, he raised the issue on EVM. Now, when AAP is raising the issue, BJP is silent." (UNI)
