Life out of gear in Kashmir as students clash with Forces

Srinagar: Business and other activities came to a halt as students clashed with the security forces, who burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge at Pulwama in South Kashmir today. The trouble started when students of local Higher Secondary School (HSS) hit the streets after holding protest demonstrations inside the school this morning.

They also pelted stone at the security forces and passing vehicles at main chowk, demanding release of students who were arrested during recent protests, including yesterday.

The security forces resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators who were pelting stones. However, after it had no impact on the students, security forces burst teargas shells to disperse them. Shops and business establishments, which had opened this morning, were again closed and traffic also went off the roads due to clashes.

Students across the Kashmir Valley have been protesting, demanding action against security forces who entered the Degree College at Pulwama and allegedly thrashed students, including girls on April 15. (UNI)
