Lotus blooms in civic body polls in MP

Bhopal: The saffron party continued their winning streak as they registered victory in Harda Municipal Corporation and Town Council Elections in Anuppur district's Amarkantak and Dhar district's Mandu respectively, official sources said.

BJP candidate Surendra Jain defeated his nearest rival Congress’ Harimohan Sharma by over 12,000 votes for the post of chairman in the Harda Municipal Corporation election. Mr Jain got 2,7858 votes, while Mr Sharma received 1,4868 votes. The BJP candidate won by a margin of 12,990 votes. In all, 760 votes were cast in favour of NOTA. For coucillors’ post, 35 candidates of BJP won, Congress got four seats while another went to an Independent candidate.

In Amarkantak, BJP’s Prabha Panoria got 2,263, while Omkeshwari Singh of Congress received 1,145 votes for the chairperson for town council. BJP’s Malti Jairam defeated Laxmi Pappu Bhawar of Congress for Mandu town council’s chairperson post in Mandu town council polls. Ms Jairam got 2,970 votes and Ms Bhawar managed 2,513 votes. (UNI)
