Militants Mayhem: Loot of weapons from guards of politician, attack on police station

Srinagar: Militants entered the house of the opposition National Conference (NC) leaders and looted four automatic weapons in South Kashmir district district of Kulgam, official sources said here this morning. Meanwhile, working president of the NC and former Chief minister Omar Abdullah said ''it is the shortage of weapons as youths are willing to join the militancy in the valley.'' Sources said that a group of militants entered the house of NC leader Abdul Rashid Khandy in Damhal Hanji Pora in Kulgam and took away four automatic weapons from the guards. Mr Abdullah taking to micro blogging site Twitter said ''I've been making the point time and again it's a shortage of weapons not of willingness to join militancy these days.

'' He was reacting to reports that militants looted weapons from the NC leaders house. Attacks on mainstream political parties and police personnel have increases in Kashmir valley, particularly in south Kashmir, since the death of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two militants in an encounter in Anantnag on July 8 followed by massive violence in which 75 persons were killed and over 7000 others injured in the security force firing.

Militants attack police station in south Kashmir

Militants attacked a police station with grenades and automatic weapons in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama early this morning, official sources said. They said militants hurled hand grenades followed by indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons on the police station in the main chowk Pulwama. Police personnel also retaliated and the exchange of firing continued for some time. The militants who were firing managed to escape under the cover of darkness, they said, adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants. However, no one was injured in the firing, they said. (UNI)
