Minor Dalit girl beaten up in Amethi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slams UP govt

Lucknow: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday shared a viral video of a minor Dalit girl being beaten up in Amethi, and demanded that the accused be arrested within 24 hours by the of Uttar Pradesh police.
"The incident of a Dalit girl being beaten up mercilessly in Amethi is condemnable," Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress in-charge for the poll-bound state, tweeted.
"There are on an average 34 incidents of atrocities against Dalits in UP every day, and 135 against women. Yet your administration is sleeping," she slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government for their inaction.
"If the criminals who did this inhuman act are not arrested within 24 hours, a huge protest will be held by Congress to wake you up," she said.
In the video, two men are seen beating the girl, while some other men and women are standing around, asking her to confess something. The girl is seen pleading in the video, as the men continue to beat her with sticks.
According to reports the girl was beaten up and molested. An FIR has been filed in the case.
Amethi is the erstwhile Lok Sabha constituency of Rahul Gandhi, which he lost to BJP's Smriti Irani in the 2019 general elections. Amethi has been the family pocket borough of the Gandhis before the loss. (UNI)
