Srinagar: Chairman of moderate Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was again put under house arrest today to prevent him from leading protest against civilian killings in alleged security force firing in the Valley. A spokesman for the HC said paramilitary forces and state police personnel had been deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz who was later informed that he has been put under house arrest.
Media Advisor to HC Advocate Shahidul Islam was questioned by National Investigation Agency at New Delhi yesterday in connection with the alleged terror funding from Pakistan in Kashmir. Earlier, the NIA questioned him and raided his house in Srinagar before summoning him to Delhi. Chairman of hardline HC Syed Ali Shah Geelani also remained under house arrest.
The son in law of Mr Geelani, Altaf Ahmad Shah was also summoned to Delhi and questioned there. Both the factions of the HC and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), spearheading the agitation, demanding right to self determination, have called for a general strike today in protest against the civilian deaths in security force action in the Valley during the past two days.
