New Delhi: Advocating cow slaughter ban across the country, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today said any violence in the name of cow protection 'defames the cause' and it must be checked. At an event to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir in the national capital, Mr Bhagwat said that he wants a law banning cow slaughter across the country. Rejecting hooligans in the name of cow protection in the country, Mr Bhagwat said that cow protection should be within the laws.
How can one justify the act of violence during the Gau Raksha which is an act of protecting the animal from violence, especially cows, he asked. "Any violence in the name of cow slaughter defames the cause and the law must be obeyed," he said. His statement gains significance in the wake of thrashing of a 55-year-old dairy farmer, Pehlu Khan, in Rajasthan's Alwar district a few days back. The Government faced opposition ire in Parliament, with the Congress alleging a "constitutional breakdown" in BJP-ruled Rajasthan. (UNI)
