MP clinches "Tiger State" crown from K'taka by a whisker

Bhopal:On the occasion of International Tiger Day, Chief Minister Kamal Nath expressed happiness and felicitated his officers besides reserve management teams for the fact that Madhya Pradesh has attained the status of the state with the highest big cat population, it was officially learnt.  
The Chief Minister inaugurated a photography exhibition titled 'Kingdom of Tigers' in this City of Lakes and released a book 'Baghon ki Kahani, Munna ki Jubaani'.The central state proved to be the best habitat for tigers with number of 526 big cats. The runner up was the former Tiger state Karnataka with 524 Tigers. Uttrakhand was on third position with 442 tigers. Maharastra stood fourth with 312 tigers. The fifth state in terms of Tiger Population was Tamil Nadu with 264 tigers.

According to the census, the total popultaion of tigers in India is 2967. A double fold rise in the tiger's population has been witnessed since past 12 years. Besides, Pench tiger reserve is the top ranked Tiger reserve of  the country as per NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority of India). Thats not all, the second and third ranked reserve is also from MP namely Kanha and Satpura Tiger reserve respectively.(UNI)
