Car sales June 2021: Passenger vehicle sales bounce back

Major automakers, including Maruti Suzuki, TVS Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra, MG Motor, Kia, Nissan, on Thursday reported growth in passenger vehicles sales in June.
The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India posted total sales of 1,47,368 units in June, up from 46,555 units in May. The demand is led by strong growth seen both in mini and compact vehicles segment, and utility vehicle segment with the easing of lockdown restrictions.
TVS Motor Company registered a growth of 27 pc in June 2021 with sales of 251,886 units as against sales of 198,387 units in the month of June 2020.
Total two-wheeler registered a growth of 25 pc with sales of 238,092 units in June 2021 as against sales of 191,076 units in June 2020. Motorcycle registered sales of 146,874 units in June 2021 as against sales of 84,401 units in June 2020. Scooter sales of the Company registered 54,595 units in June 2021 as against sales of 65,666 units in June 2020.
Domestic two-wheeler sales registered 145,413 units in June 2021 as against sales of 144,817 units in June 2020.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, one of India’s leading automotive companies, today announced that its overall auto sales (passenger vehicles + commercial vehicles + exports) for the month of June 2021 stood at 32964 vehicles.
In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 16636 vehicles in June 2021. The Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 16913 vehicles in June 2021. Exports for the month of June 2021 were at 2607 vehicles.
MG Motor India sold 3558 units in June this year, recording a three-fold rise from 1016 units sold in May 2021. With the phased unlocking process in progress, the carmaker registered a significant increase in enquiries and bookings.
Kia India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kia Corporation, recorded sales of 15,015 units in June 2021, registering over 106 pc Y-o-Y growth.
The brand sold 8,549, 5,963 and 503 units of the Seltos, Sonet and Carnival respectively. A healthy 36 pc M-o-M growth indicated an improved customer sentiment after an ease in the lockdown curbs across the country.
Nissan Motor India announced a total wholesale of 3503 vehicles in June 2021, this marks a year on year growth of 508 pc. The company had made 576 units of sales to whole sellers in June 2020. (Inputs from UNI)
