Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is facing charges of corruption brought to light through Panama papers leak, today got some respite as the Supreme Court ordered a further probe, saying more evidence was needed. The Opposition had been demanding his removal ever since the publication of Panama Papers last year.

The secret documents from Panama’s law firm Mossack Fonsecca revealed alleged offshore dealings of many of the world’s rich and powerful people including Nawaz Sharif and his family. The Supreme Court in a 3-2 verdict at Lahore, today ordered constitution of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and asked the Prime Minister to cooperate with it. The decision comes as a relief for Mr Sharif, as it has warded off the threat of his immediate disqualification. (UNI)
